creating
awkward silence
The idea for Drop 009 was for a big, juicy, lightly spicy Zinfandel. We sourced some stellar Zinfandel, as well as smaller amounts of other old school blending varieties, from some really well regarded Napa and Sonoma vineyards with long histories of producing outstanding wines. As we prepped for the bottling, the production team got in touch with final paperwork showing the blend percentage. Lots of Zinfandel, but not enough to be called Zinfandel on the label. Someone, we won’t say who, literally forgot to carry the one and turned our “Zinfandel” into a “Red Wine”. Dave is pretty routinely referred to as a Marketing Genius in the press, but when it came to this math calculation…Awkward. Silence.

Tea stained, crumpled and thread bare. We took vintage photographs and put them through the wringer. The resulting labels evoke that flustered feeling of saying “you too!” when the waiter says enjoy your meal.
exploring
this drops
theme
All things awkward, all things quiet or uncomfortably silent. Drop 009’s quarterly zine is quintessentially Gestalt in our literal interpretation of the theme. Diving deep by exploring the long radio silence during Apollo 13’s return to earth, and keeping it light with gaffes like the Dan Quayle potato(e) debacle. You might learn something, or just shudder from the cringe of a particularly awkward moment in history.
Our theme is explored further through the art of visual mending, we invite our members to breathe new life into well loved garments with our custom “awkward silence” sewing kit. Every drop our art object is meant to be an extension of the theme, and for Drop 009- we thought what better way to expand on awkwardness than planning ahead for when a button pops or a seam unravels in an untimely moment.
